Susan Gordon
My full name is Susan Gordon Byron, but I like to use Gordon as my surname because it has a certain robustness about it.
I have 5 years' experience as a scriptwriter, chiefly in theatre and short film. I was fortunate to see a number of my short plays performed through entering script calls from theatre companies, and in March 2018 was shortlisted for the New Playwright Award by BBC Hampshire/Solent for #myhero. This was also longlisted for the Little Wonder radio play competition. In 2017/18, I wrote and directed my first short film, The Lady is a Trout (1 x 5'), and, 6 months later, my second, The King of Hearts (1 x 12'). In 2018/2019, I wrote and produced an original scripted comedy-mystery podcast, Wuthering's: A Serious Comedy (6 x 20').
In 2016, I completed a NCTJ post-graduate qualification in newspaper journalism, and subsequently worked at the Catholic Herald as a freelance writer-editor (Jul 16-Oct 18). I now support independent authors, businesses and creators on their projects as a freelance editor. Much of my work is remote or virtual, but I'm based in SE London.
Up until 2014/15, I was a management accountant. I trained at a mid-tier accountancy practice, Shipley's LLP, and subsequently served both small businesses and large corporate entities. I have 10 years’ experience in management and finance, including 5 years' ACCA post-qualified work in budgeting and business partnering.
